Lee D. Pa Rum Pum Pum Pums & That Drummer Is Gonna Get Some
Posted on: December 26, 2010
(Ed. note: I probably changed that title like 9 times…. it doesn’t even make that much sense)
Wow… I never thought I’d say this but, without work I’m kind of bored. But, boredom lead me to reading too much and then thinking too much and then this post and my theory.
You know how I love theories and science… so here we go: people feel very passionate about this little drummer boy.
I was at another blog reading comments, because apparently that’s what I can do with endless amounts of time on my hands, and I was LOL’ing. And then writing this extremely long-winded post.
All this drama was over a 3 minute bit of “Little Drummer Boy”. Not the most earth shattering performance of Lee’s…. just a little promotion for Lee bear on Jesus’ birthday.
Before I get to my favorite comments; let’s not forget the sun was all up in his retinas. I just wanted to mention that again and post some pictures, because that was my favorite part. I get very dramatic when the sun is in my eyes… I can barely walk on the sidewalk and complain very loudly. I couldn’t imagine trying to put my fingers in correct places on a guitar. (not that I can do that when the sun isn’t burning my eyelids, but you get my point)
Good thing the crazy cool guitarists have sunglasses on.
Okay, back to the original reason for all of this…. my favorite comments about LDB on a certain website. You would think Lee bear made this huge political statement, but no it was just about a little boy who drums. A warning: I posted some of the “mean” ones, but I use that term loosely, because most of them don’t make sense. Well, linguistically they make sense, but no basis in reality.
I loved Lee’s rockin version of Little Drummer Boy, and the crowd loved it, too.I’m glad they focused on RJ’s drumming-he was really into it! I watched this yesterday; the performance looked great on TV
I agree. This drummer boy was getting down. I even have a picture to prove this and to solidify the genius’ words above.
Didn’t appreciate ruining a beautiful traditional Christmas song with this wuss rock, made for television version. Didn’t even sing it well. And I like Lee.
Drum solo was great though.
Wow… this person was not having any of Lee, but clearly has a thing for drummers. Little drummer boys and Lee’s drummer, RJ.
Ugh – he really murdered that!
Quite the dramatic one.
I love how Lee took this boring old snoozer song and brought it to life by modernizing it. I am impressed that Lee is a modern artist, not stuck in the previous century, and that he shows unique, creative talent to change up a song and make it current. And he is having fun! Well Done
This person is a genius as far as I’m concerned. And they used a smiley face at the end… and you can’t help but smile at that.
In response to the comment about Lee bear being modern, this Da Vinci lover had this to say, and to be honest I don’t even know what it means. But they probably read a lot of Dan Brown novels.
Yeah… like putting a mustache on the Mona Lisa.
And then a person, a little bit more grounded in reality.
Well, I wouldn’t put LDB on the same level as the Mona Lisa. He took a song that I’ve heard way too many times and made it fresh again. The crowd loved it, but then he always gets a great response from the audience when he performs.
And a few more….
It’s one thing to not care for Lee’s version, but I fail to see “disrespect” on his part. If he had stayed true to the original, he would have been equally criticized by some people. I didn’t watch the entire parade yesterday, but have seen clips of the other performers previously on video. Didn’t some of them substantially change their Christmas tunes? (Not counting little Jackie here…who I just put on mute when she opens her mouth.)
This person makes good points, but my favorite is the highlighted part. Didn’t you hear?… either she lip synchs or is a robot??? I’m working on evidence for either one as we speak.
I sincerely hated how he sang the ‘pa ruppa pum pum’ part. Though without those words, I doubt I would have recognized it as The Little Drummer Boy. The crowd obviously enjoyed it and the band sounded great.
I have nothing against Lee.
Sincere hatred is much worse, as opposed to regular hatred. And they have nothing against Lee… just his pa ruppa pum pums, which ironically, is my favorite part. We can never be friends, because I made a mix tape of the pa ruppa pum pums on loop. No road trip with music for us.
Absolutely awful. I saw this on t.v. and everyone around me cringed the whole time. Some people are pleased too easily if they think he made it modern. No, he made it into wuss rock and his vocals sucked. No wonder he chose this song considering ‘pa rum pum pum pum’ sounds like how he mumbles every song he sings.
Lee ruined their Christmas. No one should be cringing during this holiday… unless your family is making you sing jingles around the tree, then cringe and keep drinking.
And what is this wuss rock??? A new genre?? That’s pretty impressive if he created a new genre. And he does kind of have bad diction, won’t fight you on that, but pa rum rum rum pums are supposed to sound like a drum roll, which I believe doesn’t have hard consonants like a “T” or “K”. So, actually he is a genius with his mouth… think about that!
Disney vibe? Walt would have hid the little drummers boys sticks.
HAHAHHAHA that’s pretty funny. I don’t even have a funnier comment to come back with…good thing old Walt is dead.
Hell, I think he’s the weakest link of this group! The arrangement was okay, the drummer was awesome.
RJ is gonna get some assss!!!! He should just carry this video around with him when he wants to pick up chicks, because he is gonna get some Christian girls all excited with his drumming.
So yeah. This was kind of long. Sorry about that. Those were just some of my favorite comments. People were all up in arms over this little performance, I just don’t get it.
But for something I can get and that we can all get behind and agree on is the hair.
PA RUM PUM PUM PUMMMMM!
-Rocco
P.S. Oh and shout out to ldjfan…… mucho gracias for posting some Rocco love out in the world.

One would think people who don’t like Lee would not find themselves compelled to watch Lee (along with their families) on Christmas Day when they know they won’t like what they see. Oh, but then again, that is assuming that said said “people” are logical at best and sane at the least
Actually you and I know that said people didn’t sit around with their families on Christmas Day and watch Lee. They just went to the mystery blog, like they do every day, pretended to watch the video, and then spewed their hate cuz that’s what haters do. And Lee has a message for the haters http://twitpic.com/3k1n39
The mean comments are from CB fans… they are still mad over the whole Lee winning AI cause he is better thing lol
The world is clearly in need of more problems. We need an epidemic of a deadly disease, another tsunami or earthquake, or a major invasion of some other country. That way peeps who felt compelled to tune into Lee’s Disneyworld performance, which they knew they would hate, would have some world news to watch instetad.
I post at MJs quite a bit, but don’t feel compelled to go into the threads of contestants I don’t like to spew venom. Some people were not brought up very well, I guess. I was taught if you cannot say something nice about someone, don’t say anything at all.
Must admit…. you have a pretty interesting blog, Rocco. I really enjoy your perspective (even if I don’t always agree). In regards to this post – Why do you think people go to MJ’s to post comments? It seems to me that most posters have a favorite from the show and either bluntly or subtly like to slam other people’s favorites. That’s what makes it FUN!! Lighten up y’all. If everyone posted only nice things, it would be a pretty boring blog, right? I don’t have a problem with his version of the song. Good luck to Lee!!
You outdid yourself on this one. So many great lines: “You would think Lee bear made this huge political statement, but no it was just about a little boy who drums” and “Lee ruined their Christmas. No one should be cringing during this holiday”… and “Sincere hatred is much worse, as opposed to regular hatred. And they have nothing against Lee… just his pa ruppa pum pums, which ironically, is my favorite part. ” I’m still laughing at these!
And, by the way, I am Ljdfan on the blog. My Mom always says “you can catch more flies with honey than you can with vinegar”, so I thought if some of those non-fans read your blog, they might actually lighten up when they see how much fun Lee and his fans are. But probably not the ones with the ‘sincere’ hatred, lol.
The world is also clearly in need of more of lee’s great hair and, rocco, a new item to comment on, great teeth! To counteract all the negative comments about lee, here is a video of lee smiling alot to the background music of bratty blink 182 – fluffy hair too http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zd49j–xp90
so good!! unfortunately, a lot of the SL’s at the other blog don’t have your amazing sense of humor
lol! indeed it is just a song about a boy who drums, who knew it was capable of inspiring such melodramatics, huh?! we have to give some of ‘em haters credit though, they surely took the time to construct such carefully thought out statements, invent inane stories & look for new and fascinating concepts (wuss rock?!). some people have been busy, eh? haha! oh well..
loved lee & the band’s rocked out LDB performance, loved how the boys looked mighty fine (not to mention lee’s awesome head of hair) & as usual love your post! happy holidays, rocco!

I officially love your blog. I hope Leebear didn’t ruin Christmas for that poster and his imaginary friends, cringing the whole time, yet unable to change the station to something he liked better (old reruns of the Lawrence Welk Show, perhaps?).
